Canadian Prime Minister Carney: Progress can be made on a number of issues without the United States

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on November 23 that global progress is possible without the participation of the United States, amid the absence of American leader Donald Trump at the G20 summit in South Africa. Carney announced this on November 23 in Johannesburg as part of the G20 meeting.

"This year's G20 summit brought together countries representing three quarters of the world's population, two thirds of global GDP, and three quarters of global trade. And this is without the official participation of the United States. This suggests that the center of gravity in the global economy is shifting," Carney said at a press conference in Johannesburg as part of the G20 meeting, broadcast by the Canadian CPAC television channel on its YouTube channel.

According to him, if the 20th century was characterized by "the concentration of capital, production and power," then the new era is shaped by the spread of technology, energy and influence due to the "rise of the countries of the South and the new role of middle powers such as Canada," which participate in multilateral agreements beneficial to all.

Carney stressed that the consensus reached at the G20 leaders' meeting was important. And the United States should not obstruct agreements and dictate its own rules.

On November 23, the G20 leaders adopted the declaration of the G20 summit in South Africa. The document contains 122 positions on various international issues. The text contains sections on measures to prevent natural disasters, reduce the debt of low-income countries, efficient use of minerals, artificial intelligence (AI), and others.

The Declaration also contains commitments to reform international institutions, including the UN Security Council, and strengthen the role of developing countries in the IMF and the World Bank. As indicated by the press secretary of the President of South Africa Vincent Magwenya, the document "is not subject to revision." The G20 summit is taking place in the South African capital of Johannesburg on November 22-23.
